Social Security Benefits (Form SSA-1099)

Menu Path: Income > Common Income > Social Security Benefits (SSA-1099)

Enter on the Social Security Benefits (Form SSA-1099) screen.

Enter the total amount of Social Security benefits you received, and we'll calculate how much, if any, of the benefits are taxable.

Do not include your child's Social Security benefits on your tax return. Your child's Social Security benefits would be reported on his or her own tax return if your child needs to file a return. Very few children have enough income to need to file a tax return, even if they receive Social Security benefits.

Do not include supplemental security income (SSI). SSI is not taxable income and does not need to be reported anywhere on your federal tax return.
