How is my retirement income treated?
You should have received a Form 1099-R reporting the distribution. Check Box 7 to find the distribution code:
- A number 1 indicates an early distribution, which may be subject to a 10% early distribution penalty.
- A number 7 signifies a normal distribution, which is taxable but not subject to the 10% early distribution penalty.
