Enter home improvement costs related to the following on the Home Energy Credit screens:
  • Qualified solar electric property
  • Qualified solar water heating property
  • Qualified small wind energy property
  • Qualified geothermal heat pump property
  • Qualified battery storage technology
  • Qualified fuel cell property
  • Insulation material or air sealing material or systems
  • Energy Star program exterior doors
  • Energy Star program exterior windows or skylights
  • Central air conditioners
  • Natural gas, propane, or oil water heaters
  • Natural gas, propane, or oil furnace or hot water boilers
  • Improvements or replacement of panelboards, subpanelboards, branch circuits, or feeders
  • Electric or natural gas heat pumps and heat pump water heaters
  • Biomass stoves and biomass boilers
Other home improvements aren't generally deducted on your tax return; they just increase the cost basis of your home.
