LT 16 Notice

What is the LT 16 notice telling me?
Enforcement action may be taken to collect taxes you owe because you have not responded to previous notices sent to you by the IRS on this matter.

What do I have to do?
Contact the IRS to resolve your account. The letter includes a number of options available to you.

How much time do I have?
Contact the IRS as soon as possible to avoid collection action, no later than 10 days from the date on the letter.

What happens if I don't pay?
Enforcement action including levy on your wages, bank accounts, federal payments or state tax refunds may result if your balance is not resolved. If you are unable to pay in full, a monthly payment plan may be available, or collection may be delayed if you are unable to pay due to financial hardship. Please be ready to discuss your income, expenses and assets owned if you feel that you are unable to pay; proof may be requested.

Who should I contact if I have questions?
Contact the IRS at the number shown at the top of the letter.

What if I don't agree or have already taken corrective action?
If you do not agree with this notice, call the IRS immediately at the number printed at the top of the notice. If you called the IRS about this matter before, but they did not correct the problem, you may want to contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service.

If you have already paid or arranged for an installment agreement, you should still call the IRS at the number printed at the top of the notice to make sure your account reflects this.
