What if I don't see the name of the student?

If a child is not a dependent on your tax return, you cannot claim an education credit for that child.

If your child claims the education credit on their tax return, you won't be able to claim the credit on yours.

If an ex-spouse claims the child as a dependent, then the ex-spouse would claim the education credit on their tax return.
