What do I use for the prior year AGI or prior year PIN if my filing status has changed from last year?
Prior Year AGI
If the change is to Married Filing Jointly, then each taxpayer will use the AGI amount from their individual 2024 tax returns.
If the change is from Married Filing Jointly, then each taxpayer will use the same AGI amount from the 2024 joint return, regardless of which spouse earned the income last year.
Prior Year PIN
Everyone chooses an individual PIN, regardless of filing status. So whatever PIN you chose for yourself when you e-filed last year is the PIN you'll enter for your Prior Year PIN this year.
If you don't know your Prior Year PIN or your Prior Year AGI, then you'll have to mail your return this year.
