Form 1099-S is for real estate transactions. The type of transaction for which you received the
Form 1099-S determines where it is reported on your tax return.
Sale of Main Home
Menu Path:
Income > Uncommon Income > Sale of Main Home
If it is for the sale of your main home, enter your
Form 1099-S information on the
Home Sale Information screen.
Vacation Home, Investment Property, or Land
Menu Path:
Income > Common Income > Investments and Savings (1099-INT/DIV/B/DA)
If the
Form 1099-S is received for the sale of a vacation home, investment property, or land, enter the sales amount shown on the
Form 1099-S on the
Stock or Investment Sale Information screen. Choose
Other Sales for investment type. If it was for the sale of an inherited home, see
Inherited Home for more information.
Rental Property
Menu Path:
Income > Business / Rental Income > Rental Income (Schedule E)
If the
Form 1099-S is for the sale of a rental property, enter your rental property information in the
Rental Income (Schedule E) section. Then answer
Yes to the question on the
Rental Income Information screen that asks if you disposed of your entire interest in the property.
