Is workers' compensation taxable income on my tax return?

Usually it is not taxable income and does not need to be reported anywhere on your tax return. The exception is if your workers' compensation replaced some of your Social Security benefits. This should be shown on your Form SSA-1099.

Workers' compensation benefits that substitute for Social Security benefits are treated like Social Security benefits on your tax return. These are taxed just like Social Security benefits if your income is high enough for your Social Security benefits to be partly taxable.
