What if my dependent lives in Canada or Mexico?

If your dependent is a U.S. citizen, you can claim your dependent no matter where he or she lives. If your dependent is not a U.S. citizen, but is a resident of Canada or Mexico, you can still claim your dependent on your tax return if all of the other dependent requirements are met.
