Certain types of businesses are required to register with the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI). When you register your business, you are issued an identifying number called a DFI number.
Businesses and organizations that are required to have a DFI number are generally financial service providers like banks, mortgage brokers, or consumer lenders. It may also include other organizations like professional fund-raisers, investment advisors, or commissioned notaries public.
