What is Utah's Renewable Residential Energy Systems Credit?

The Renewable Residential Energy Systems Credit can be claimed on the costs of installing a solar, biomass, geothermal, hydroenergy, or wind system that supplies necessary power to a home. To claim the credit you'll need to fill out an application with the Office of Energy Development and receive a certified Form TC-40E. Keep Form TC-40E with your records.

Since the Renewable Residential Energy Systems Credit is non-refundable, it can only be used to reduce the amount of tax you owe. Unused credit can be carried forward up to four years.

The credit expired at the end of 2023, and the last year any unused carryover from this credit can be used will be 2027.
