Where on my investment statement does it say if the basis was reported to the IRS?

There are several ways a broker or bank shows this information on your statement. Look for any of these key words in the columns or boxes on your statement, and we'll explain what they mean:

Key Word What This Means:
Basis reported Yes, your basis was reported to the IRS. Answer Yes here.
Basis not reported No, your basis was not reported to the IRS. Answer No here.
Box 2 If Box 2 is checked, it means your basis was reported to the IRS. Answer Yes here.

If Box 2 is not checked, it means your basis was not reported to the IRS. Answer No here.
Covered Yes, your basis was reported to the IRS. Answer Yes here.
Noncovered No, your basis was not reported to the IRS. Answer No here.
Box G, H, I, J, K, or L Box G or Box J means your basis was reported to the IRS. If your statement shows either box checked, answer Yes here.

Box H or Box K means your basis was not reported to the IRS. If your statement shows either box checked, answer No here.

Box I or Box L means you didn't receive a 1099-DA (or a substitute statement). Choose the I didn't receive Form 1099-DA (or a substitute statement) option.
