What is an Illinois volunteer emergency worker?

For the purposes of the Illinois Volunteer Emergency Worker Credit, a voluntary emergency worker is a person who meets either of the following conditions:
  • They serve as a member, not on a full-time career basis, of a fire department, fire protection district, or fire protection association that has a Fire Department Identification Number issued by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and do NOT serve as member of a full-time career basis for another fire department, fire protection district, fire protection association, or government entity, OR
  • They are a volunteer member of a county or municipal emergency services, have volunteered for at least 100 hours during the immediately preceding calendar year, and are registered with Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and the Office of Homeland Security (OHS).
