If your federal return is accepted, your card will be charged and the hold will be released.
If your federal return is rejected after submitting a tax due payment, the pending charge will be cancelled and you'll need to make a payment again when you resubmit your federal return or pay another way.
Why do I still have a pending charge?
Uncommon Scenarios
In rare cases, we may not be able to cancel the pending charge when your return is rejected. These are the possible scenarios you may see if we're unable to release the hold:You resubmit your federal return with no change to the tax due
- Once your return is accepted, your card will be charged the amount of your original tax due.
- The hold for the original payment will remain on your card until your bank releases it, which is usually 5-10 days. Once your resubmitted federal return is accepted, you can make a payment for the new amount of tax due.
- The in-app credit card payment process is only available for e-filed federal returns. If you select the option to mail instead of resubmitting your federal return, the hold may remain on your card until your bank releases it (usually 5-10 days). Your card will not be charged. You will need to pay your tax due using another method listed on the "Check Status/Print Your Return" screen.
