What if my FEMA number has a state code at the end?

FEMA numbers begin with either "DR" or "EM" followed by a hyphen and four numbers. Some of these FEMA numbers also have an additional hyphen and 2-character state code at the end. However, the IRS only wants the first part of the FEMA number reported on your return. If your FEMA number has a state code at the end, leave out the additional hyphen and state code and just report the FEMA number using the first 4 numbers, formatted as "DR-8888" or "EM-8888".
