- You can be eligible for a refund based on your changes.
- You can owe additional taxes based on your changes.
- You can have no overall net change to your refund (or amount owed).
Some changes may be dollar-for-dollar changes. For example, adding additional amounts you had withheld can increase your refund by that exact dollar amount.
Many changes, however, are not dollar-for-dollar and can be complex in how they factor into your tax calculation. For example, adding an additional W-2 can increase your income (and the tax on that income), but it can also update the amounts you had withheld, which further adjusts your overall refund/amount owed.
