How does the District of Columbia (DC) tax remote workers?
I lived in DC.
If you're considered a full-year resident of DC, you will be taxed on all income earned from any source during your time of residency. Part-year residents of DC are taxed only on income earned in DC. Be sure to file the appropriate return.
You may be able to claim a credit for taxes paid to another state if you're a full-year resident and the income made in the other state was also taxed in DC.
I worked remotely from DC.
Non-residents of DC are not required to file a tax return.
I lived in another state and worked remotely for an employer based in DC, and I didn't work physically at any time in DC.
If your employer was based in DC, they may have withheld taxes from your DC wages as shown on your W-2. If you were not a DC resident and you had taxes withheld, you may request a refund.
