What does "Pay later" or "Pay on my own" mean?

If you choose Pay later or Pay on my own, we'll help you set up a payment for your federal taxes to be paid separately from when you file your return. So, you can file your return now, but pay your taxes later.

Note: We recommend paying your federal tax due by April 15th to avoid paying penalties and interest.

The following are the options you can use to pay your federal tax due later:

• Direct debit using bank account
• Pay with credit card
• Mail in payment with a payment voucher using a check or money order (Form 1040-V)
• Pay using IRS online account
• Pay using Direct Pay
