Have the rules for Required Minimum Distributions (RMD) changed?

Congress made changes to the RMD rules with the SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022. The beginning RMD age changed from 72 to 73, which was put into place December 31st, 2022.

If you turned 72 in 2022, you would need to have started your RMDs by April 1, 2023.

If you turned 73 in 2023, you have until April 1, 2025 to begin taking your RMD.

Going forward, the year in which you turn 73 years old starts the clock. You have until April 1st of the following year to begin taking your RMD.
