How do I determine the taxable amount?

If you didn't have Schedule A - Itemized Deductions on the return for the earlier tax year, you can enter zero.

If you did itemize deductions that year, some of the refund may be taxable. See Recoveries of Itemized Deductions Worksheet  and Publication 525  to determine your taxable amount.
