What is tax paid?
Tax paid is the amount of tax you paid when you filed your 2025 return. It is NOT your overall tax or withholdings and should not include any penalties or interest paid.
The amount of tax you should have paid with your 2025 federal return is on Form 1040, Line 37.
For example, let's say you filed an original federal return and reported $20,000 of income. This resulted in an overall tax liability for the year of $700. Throughout the year, you had $600 in taxes withheld from your paychecks and when you filed your original return, you paid the $100 in taxes you still owed ($700 of total tax liability - $600 in tax withholdings). This $100 is the tax owed on your original Form 1040, Line 37, and that's the amount to enter on this screen.
