What do I enter when my holding period is undetermined?

When you have a gain or loss in which the term (holding period) is undetermined, this means your broker was unable to determine if your sales were short-term (held for a year or less) or long-term (held for over a year).

When the holding-period is undetermined, you'll need to enter the sales according to your own knowledge and records. For example, if you bought XYZ stock on March 1, 2024 and sold it on March 29, 2025, you would enter these as long-term sales.

Please note, you will need to separate any long-term and short-term sales entered as a summary.
