The IRS is working on a multiyear project to translate more IRS communications such as notices, formal letters, tax forms, instructions, etc. into other languages. As part of that, the IRS is collecting information on what language taxpayers would like to communicate in. This project started at the beginning of 2023.
Choosing an IRS language preference is optional. If you don't select any preference the IRS will continue to send you communications in English (or whatever language preference they have on file from a previous
Schedule LEP you filed.)
Even if you select a different language, you'll continue to receive communications, including notices and letters, in English until they are translated to your preferred language.
To get basic tax information in different languages see the
IRS Website for more information.
