Do I need to resubmit my state tax return if my e-filed federal tax return is rejected?
Except for California and Massachusetts any state that is e-filed along with the federal tax return will automatically be rejected if the federal tax return is rejected. Make any corrections needed, then resubmit your federal and state tax return for e-filing by going to the Submit Return for Processing screen and clicking on the Send Tax Return button.
California and Massachusetts have their own electronic transmission system, so if your federal tax return is rejected, you do NOT need to resubmit your California or Massachusetts return for electronic processing.
